Heat blankets heat, stifles breeze
the sun more intense, sea waiting
for relief, placid mirror for cumulus
overhead, the water whispers
speaks low, tempered voice
like a convocation of persons
moving along the shore, silent
congregations, reverent assemblage
lapping, withdrawing their comments
tidal talk, listing tides, lineal to
elevated reefs, low murmurings
from marine gatherings, subdued by heat.
