Quetzal in hiding, symbol of our Savior
waiting in a forest, clouds shrouding
our access to this exquisite bird
luminous golden green scarlet plumage
crown and upper flowing tail coverts
humbling the peacock beyond description
from the clearing rebuffed, where I am
opening a field, breaking the hard crust
of rock, clay contrite before my spirit
sorrowing in mortality, a broken heart
to plant the harvest, bed for seed to shine.
