The Lord has called me
to be a stepping stone
that my descendants may
pass safely over turgid
waters, deep dark flow
a stone quarried of minerals
in the mine of time, solid
dense, coherent rock
as green as forest emerald
dew drops after rain; gold
as the cast of autumn foiled
in sapphire blue skies, along
lapis lazuli seashores under
silver gray snows of overcast
indirect light, washed with
an afternoon jade polishing
sure stepping in the sun
or under the moon’s glow at night.
