INNOCENSE

“To become as little children”
bells calling all to mass, in urgent
clanging to reflect on choices
to be made: a world at war, the bang
of chaos drums the streets
the scent of terrible agony, burning
of body parts, generations cut short
while clean steel shining, polished
bright, is witness of the right, a sword
kept within its sheath is innocence preserved.
