16th DAY

The night folds dreadful doubts
that come with rain, to hold them
tight, squeezing out the fear, leaving
pitter patter of laughter they contain
to welcome a pause of dawn, clearly gained
as birds shake wet beads, from feathers
stretch to set their wings, lifting through
the leaves, cautious songs before a world
draped still, in soggy gray damp draining
aftermath, the green needing warm light
as creeks run full of bewilderment, following deluge
streaming lower, ever giving, a river receiving them
on their certain journey to the sea.
