TWO CROSSES

We take up our cross of life
mortality immolates, dousing
the vital flame, a sacrifice
living unto death, refines, as we
bend, break, humble when
we stumble, enduring “the crosses
of the world” lifted up as we
accept our Father’s will, leading with
His eye, single to His son
bleeding from every pore, needing
ever more, for each one, lifted
upon His cross by ignorant, fallen men
doomed in error, assuring immortality
in mercy, dying for all the pains of sin
to see and rise again, healed anew
cleansed, killing death dead for me
stilled, its chains and terror entombed.
