The ground shakes, slipping plates
courage to live, absorb the shakes
emotion shifts, feelings cored
empty dread, solemn dirge
no longer bored, talk stops
liturgy of startled birds, barking dogs
cold whores run into the streets
bricks crack, sign posts fall
before another series replicates
numbers on a Richter scale, shocks
reverberate,  measured in return to faith
forgotten fears, a sudden flow
in weak hearts that tremor late.
