A poem is a print, an overlay
of ourselves on the inside
labor of day performed
hydrant of connections, the cry
recorded, dialogue repeated
thought caught, complement to lives
often long drivel of nonsense
discourse always beyond us
more just, more wise, condemning
us always to human folly
left with a vain attempt, boxes of years
scribbled in journals, on paper
folded sheets, ship logs that marked course
observed conditions along the way.
