A cold gusty morning has turned mild
calorific imperceptible breeze, overcast
warm clouds protect us from hot tropic sun
earthquake warnings prepare us: lowering
breakables, securing water storage, gas reserve
tectonic plates shift slightly, vibrate land
low Richter numbers, ominous caution
in the logarithm of amplitude of ground motion
divided by duration, time of the principle
wave, houses fall, earth slips, women run
in the streets calling God, hod carriers rejoice
with mobilized promises of rebuilding, outward
curve, undulation that moves an undertaking.
