MORTAL

Why do I hold on to error
its ambiguity confounding
refusing to abandon what
could destroy me, unable
to admit that I am wrong
rationalizing my demise
not letting go those I love
protecting others from pain?
Yet somebody will suffer for
stubbornness , breaking
barriers, reaching to know
risking offense, contradict
defining righteousness, purity
of desires measured metrically
in celestial matrix, stretching
resolutions by expanding
dimensions, pitting prerogative
as Proclus converted Plotinus
into pagan theology, establishing
a weight of potent tradition for
Christian theologians, against
the Word’s absolute authority
obfuscating the obvious
in paradox as divine legacy is
corrupted in mortality, leaving
me only to flee, go out from
the land of shadow, death’s
darkness in search of a great
light, a wanderer, estranged
in exile, far from home.
