 HOLDING TIME

I have not seen its surface yet
I have not created it, its essence
is that it is different, its difference
the maintenance of appropriate
conditions in an infinite background
of relations which change with time.
Sitting here as almost 3 months ago
as today, on a balcony on the corner
of 17 and I, Vedado, Havana, Cuba
the enormous sun falling into a heavy
Caribbean blue blinding from brilliant
pastel wash of fiery colors, when before
storm clouds veil of rain, in a background
of street sounds, buses, brake pads holding
tires, voices fading to a faint horn
wind carrying a plethora of barely distinct
resonances fused into evening static
when before, electric wet and fresh, over
weathered cement architectures squared
against a sky dimming, moving my sight
as gravity moves the day into night.
