DAY IN MARCH

Dull until I realized that this dumb march
was my forty years in the wilderness
freeing my mind from the grip of reason
symbols of ritual, dependence on objects
exotic flavors to overwhelm the senses
enslaving will in futile pursuits, breaking
the stiffness of an erect neck, softening
my stubborn heart, a new order expanding
the limits over desert hills, rocky crests
reaching into vast starry nights to form
a new oasis verdant, fresh with crystal
pools of water, pristine, rising endlessly
from crevices between immense boulders
opening the heavens to receive the love
never imagined, nor hoped for before.
