CHAIN

Low lying overcast heavy on time
suspended here, no sun, no rain
suspense, a long series of promises
each relying on the previous, failure
to comply assured, its end living
in the first impossibility of wished for
plans, linking of dreams, chains
predicting tomorrow’s weather, I can’t
if he doesn’t, sealed in foreboding clouds
portending a draught, or the latest as
a deposit, sunshine in a bank, waiting
in line for a check to clear, open skies
breaking a negative barrier, cut off if not
another tenuous induction, to seal the loss
or go beyond, cognate to comical experience.
