I lost the word that I wanted to say
now searching through every page
the idea of eternal bliss, crowded
out by necessity, manipulating dreams
to get a little farther down the track
or basic maintenance until the dream
blurs and the hope forgotten for that
ambrosia of sensations brings
responsibility, instinct to survive
crushes us later with duty, we will
go on staying away from wars, not
dependent on our material things
for happiness or security of thought
but on the freedom to love and give
as chance needs pass our way with
a hand out or a long face of despair
incorporating them into ourselves
the last bell tolled for me, the sea
bringing its processions to portage
the portent of something marvelous
discovered in the opening of coffers
mysteriously arriving at the very
moment of service, a law of Karma
the Hindus declared, leaving many
words out that could not be said.
