ALCHEMIST

Morning mist lifts from green hills
as day warms, to see lessons of essence
in a blade of grass, grain of sand, scraps
of symmetry, broken stone, fodder needing
light and water, yielding fluid overcoming
rigid and hard, when nothing appears to be
happening, emptiness, spaces between
see into the silver blue mirror when
no breeze disturbs your surface, unfolding
illusion as syntax orders semantics, each digit
an element in a field of variation, its property
its relation with others, expressed in rules of order
careful placement, structures of  living things
with their sounds, shapes, colors, meanings
tones, innuendo, vital grammars, genetic models
built with a nucleotide alphabet of four UCAG
sugar and phosphate molecules, 64 possible
arrangements in triplet Condon, 61 assigned
to amino acids, 3 stop Condon terminate
protein synthesis of 20 synthesizers, docking
controlled, triangles in affinities and antipathies
attachment alliance to the loop, many faces
curve as a burnished copper helix spiral
straight lines drawn on a plane, wrapped around
a cylinder, chamber in which the piston of life slides.
