UNABLE TO SIT

He wrestled with self, contradictory
positions, unable to sit patiently
on the sofa of life, before a T.V. or
staged event, mingle aimlessly
in social gatherings, numbing glass
in hand, his mind rebelling at
the inane nature of deceptions
wanting to go deeper, below
surfaces, pry inside, remove masks
see, tinker with mechanic emotions
dynamics of quantum thoughts, peruse
investigate, study books, data files
pick otherís brains, read between
their lines, listen for what they felt
almost said, catch what they missed
tune into echoes, renormalize static
go and be where they failed to venture.
