TRANSITION XVII

Stinging nettles over ran
my raspberry rows
I took a day to yank
the weeds with their roots
and pile them on my truck
weeks of neglect
after harvest, allowed
for the siege, now prune
stocks, burn sticks, spread
mulch thick to prepare
for the icy cold of winter.
