My survival is sustained by refusal
to quit, having exhausted feeling
withdrawn from an interest within
expecting nothing, overcome
alienated, beaten, releasing will
cast out as a wanderer, disengaging
time, reversing language, allowing
an invasion of shadows to blur my hurt
while I remain still, cliff and open sea
in that hither space, reliant no more
depositing all in a word, letting it go
surface at my back, stars overhead.
