SQUANDERED

They bought their sumptuous ways
in this world, squandering the price
of a life to come, denying veritable signs
belittling wisdom, not surrendering
to the power of good works and prayer
later finding themselves abandoned
alone on a desolate stretch, calling out
yet no answer, clouds fleeing, fear
streaks, left only to embrace remorse.
