I am an ancestor, predecessor
who showed the way, progenitor
who warned of tortuous paths
sufficiently disillusioned to accept
a world stripped of fictive ornaments
my motives may seem parochial
and isolationist, solitary scribe
in purgatory, mortalityís shop
to make men, founded, hammered
molded, dipped in a refinerís fire
battered, bitten, blown upon by billows
strange voyager at the bow, riding
the unabated deluge of chaos, cast
as relief, to what my imagination sees
and what the spirit whispers to me.
