Our Labrador Dante, driven by his nose
allure of whatever goes, gone before
trail of a rat or snake in the grass
squirrel up a tree, unrelenting scent
olfactory drive built in from the plant
sound, he points, tail up catches keen
sonar gear, friendly companion, guards
his territory yard with plenty of show
loves to be petted, brushed, scratched
listens intently to whatever you say
eats like a horse, biscuits also, of course.
