ORCHIDS WHY

All different but the same
three plus three equals six
sepals are to petals match
except one petal showier
labellum, sexy lip adorned
pollinator platform column
borne, receptive parts, pollen
in sticky packets, pollinia
capsules, when mature, split
three or six lines, to release
specks like cremated dust
skinny seeds, needing to feed
on fungus delicacies, nitrogen
rich mycorrhizae with glucose
sucrose to spare and share
if lucky, the seed germinates
thousands tossed to the wind
on bird or insect carriers, hold
fragile life, hope against too late.
