From Swedish roots, interest grew
ordering the natural world of plants
Carl Nilsson Linaeus ecologist first
designs a nomenclature binomial
taxonomy where we find families
of orchids Epiphytes, Terrestrials
Lithophytes, tens of thousands
flowering in trees, shrubs, ground
clinging, classified species circle
the globe, later includes hybrids
beyond imaginations, seed specks
of dust carried by wind, insects
even bats up for the task, climates
all, ice to steamy jungles rove
in perfumes from sweat to stink
high on ridges deep in clouds
or girdling the base, flowers fit
every size, shrivel in draught
to burst in life’s rain, diversity
explodes exponentially in tropical
climes, equatorial forested zones
in mists, evolution multiplies time.
