The occasion became complex
as she began to speak, some decried
natural tendencies, as mystics held forth
a sacred codex, laws handed down
from God, human burdens, weight
too heavy, for reasoned minds to carry
as survival was the test, arguments
raged, hopes realized behind the veil
of death, well received for passing
all the trials, beyond still, in a world
they could not see, but some felt
upon miles of trails, casually dealt.
