That night in June, you played
your guitar for pedestrians
collecting Francs of merci
or charity along the Boulevard
Saint-Michel, curious dilettantes
of the art, commented kindly
time folds years, your fingers
still remember the strings
chords opening what we hold dear
before the trauma of Viet Nam
assassination of our President
and dismal denials of Watergate.
