Navigators use monuments, markers, signposts
red bluffs of rock, Venus like an evening star
Polaris pegs the Pole, Sirius surveys sparkling
leader of hosts to herald the coming of winter
beacon of eastern horizon, the summer triangle
an astronomical asterism, connects stars, Vega
Deneb to Altair as a northern sign while below
the equator, Crux constellation, Southern Cross
Acrux to Gacrux points south to the celestial Pole
oceans stand at land’s limit, the beginning and end
like a corner blue house with a white fence
then three houses to the left, big palm in front
or we’ll be waiting at the bus stop with mango trees
the river is the State line; our Park fills a block square
I will be sitting on the front steps of the temple, at noon.
