MARCEL PROUST

To isolate himself from extraneous sounds
he lived in a room enclosed in cork
barrier to external attention breaking noise
as he burrowed deeper into subconscious
worlds of words, sense of time and signs
fragmented chronologies, to write it down
what others would never hear or see
except for his exploration of temporality
revelation of interior architectures
viewed in deep sleep, mathematical forms
shadows of sensory experience on cave walls
discovered in French, Latin mother tongue
pleasures of text, poetic scenery nourished
by all sensations in intimate interrogations
between the visible and its invisible self.
