LATHE

Weary worn worked, lathed
by the lessons of life, errors
rounded, smoothed, nicks
cracks, imperceptibly sanded
tired of mistakes, fear of death
diminished by reluctance
to go on, braced against
the certainty of uncertainty
defects, natural to Nature
knobs, gnarled knots, grain separations
seasonís unforeseen prerogatives
are daily impediments, as orbital events
pare parallel acquaintances
shear time, letting the past free
challenges to ingenuity, that take their toll
by wearing away vitality.
