What is left to say that could
make a difference, who would listen
as duty warns, the enemy at our door?
Will writing to haughty heads
content and self-sufficient, pedantic
rubric of what money buys, pattern of
conduct to success, change minds in time?
Are we like sheep, no longer led by pulpit oratory
and the Shepard’s crook, each on his pedestal
place to smile for praise, as a rustic voice
drafts words that echo in empty space?
