His lane led at right angles
from a broad thoroughfare
of irregular common thought
riddle book of nonsense
further isolating his views
except for occasional people
learned eyes and minds
seeing the virtue and value
of rare independent ways
smartly structured houses
unique in their gardens
nobly trimmed hedges enclose
assortments of flowers, herbs
for healing broken souls
fruit trees surprise in variety
luscious pears and peaches
poetic lines of bright syntax
challenging imagination
bonding past influences
rhythmic echoes of those
who had passed there before.
