FROM A DREAM

The Lord still has more flattening to do
wrinkles of weaknesses that chaff, bumps
that almost dump the load, as though
still working at adverse to the way, he said
no you knew my grandfather Frank
and from behind the banquet curtains
waiting to wash the plates, I heard
your fatherís history, stories that refined
smoothed, courage to prove my metal
today, against the forge and mallet
metaphoric lifting up to bear my cross
as one was lifted, on judgment day.
