Andalucía, heat forged memory
Triana white washed burrows
through an outer court, family
room, cool tile masonry
across the kitchen washing alcove
inner patio, succulent plants
cactus valued shade
to a musician’s den
then oh, I held a sacred relic
in my hands: 1935 Santos Hernandez
my fingers made it echo
sound vibrations from before
my Pacific crib was hung
Soléa, the mother tongue.
