I embraced dawn’s youth
woke with meadowlarks
my foot prints across dew
soaked grass, meditated
for hours a Pacific horizon
ordered my mind, cicada
coyote yelp, sage sounds
sea rhythm swells breaking
near shore, tumbling free
wet sand sticking until sun
dried, salt caked my skin
as I sang to wind’s refrain
secure in life, God gave me.
