He harbored confederate destinies
vows he held dear, sides to images
now, less than shadows, still integral
in structure, some sounds symbolizing
words in notes, colored arpeggios
boats in lamp light, along the quay
others, dreams that bridge the past
to future day of covenant, all scribbled
in garbled lines, letters forming sense
yet unfinished, leaving meaning
in doubt, transient, to circle about.
