He painted the baked earth bowl blue
receptacle for threshed wheat, grains
separated from their husks and chaff
amber waving sheaths and stalks, amidst
the tares, molded by potter hands
turning the wheel, into the ovenís marriage
of its shape with fire, to offer a gift
along the journey of the dead, azure basin
aged container, for a vestige of virtuous life
held and preserved, in this colored vessel.
