ANCESTORS (Förfäder Minnen)

Long days of Swedish summer make dreams
bright, enemies cannot hide in such light
though a stranger here, perplexed
months still before early frost, thin air
splintering glass of brittle rain, later buried
in snow, but now warm weeks buoyant
spring blossoms, valiant reminders, every color
jewels foiled in green grasses, soon shrubs of fruit
currants, red, blue, black, pale purple yellow
raspberries as shadows sway forest and fields billow
cream is sweater, cheese moist and white
fresh aromas fill the house, rooms painted yellow
luminous hues, windows blue, beams of sunshine
reflected by transparency, shimmer to stretch
the day longer over landscapes to water, islands
that change our lives, to begin again each season.
