He sacrificed his life to save their mother
burden and distance of shame sure
doctor’s death from herself, not accepting
prophetic dreams to free her, to enjoy
a fuller life of children, children’s children
condemned him then to poetry, to wander
the earth with song, secure in paradise
the hollow of Villon, the voice of God
in waterfall cascades, dense jungle greens
eleven degrees north of our equator
hiding there this secret, as birds ignite
the sunrise, angels overseeing his passage
parallel roles, messengers of experience frame
the destiny code of this poet, noted in the stars.
